The Marie Colvin Journalists’ Network has been selected to participate in the Big Give’s Women & Girls Match Fund 2025. This means that every donation made to our Big Give campaign during the week of 8-15 October will be DOUBLED. During that week, every donation, no matter the size, will be match-funded by The Big Give Trust.

We are aiming to raise £10,000 to provide a range of practical support services for the women journalists in our Network during these unprecedentedly difficult times. This includes professional mentorships, mental health support, peer support and crisis assistance.

In the words of MCJN mentor and multi-award winning documentary filmmaker Hind Hassan:

[The journalists in the Marie Colvin Journalists’ Network] are some of the most talented, intelligent and amazing people I have ever met, and I am incredibly privileged to have played a small role in their journey. I believe they are going to make a difference. That’s why it is more important than ever to support the Marie Colvin Journalists’ Network in any way you can.

For journalists in Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, Syria and elsewhere across the Arab region, the toll of reporting constantly on death, destruction, famine and displacement often while experiencing it oneself has been profound. Women journalists such as our members have faced these dangers as much as their male counterparts, while navigating greater social pressures and obstacles and often while also caregiving. This is an opportunity to redouble our solidarity and support for these vital reporters and newsgatherers.

This week coincides with World Mental Health Day on 10th October, which is especially pertinent given the emotional wellbeing support we provide alongside our professional development support. The holistic and compassionate nature of our support has been described by members as a “lifeline”:

This network has been a true lifeline for me during one of the most difficult periods of my personal and professional life. At a time when I felt lost, alone, and out of options, I found in you support, compassion, and humanity. What you offered me was not just professional assistance it was, in every sense, a rescue. You are not only saving careers, you are saving lives  Libyan freelance journalist and MCJN member.

The Network hasn’t just provided me with professional support but also emotional support, which has been very helpful for me given the current situation in Palestine and the difficult circumstances in which us women journalists work. Aziza Nofal, Palestinian journalist and MCJN mentor.
